Re: Turning Felsenthal Lock and Dam into a hdroelectric dam

Thanks Cowper, I never would have found this on my own. It expired in 2005 and would have to be refiled. It makes me a little nervous that I don't remember seeing anything locally about this, but I may have just missed it. Sixty five foot is the normal pool now and as of last year an environmental s...

Re: Turning Felsenthal Lock and Dam into a hdroelectric dam

Thanks Jim, I went to the FERC page and there has been no filing for Felsenthal. The article I read didn't mention how much power they expected to get from the dam but I got the impression they were looking at linking several sites together. I looked at some topo maps of the area yesterday and found...

Re: New Guy

Hello PW, nice to have another paddler in the South Arkansas area. You left some info at my post about the Lock 6 dam. Felsenthal is becoming one of my favorite areas to explore. Hope to see you on the water.

Re: Turning Felsenthal Lock and Dam into a hdroelectric dam

Saw about the cuts to manpower at the locks and the possible stopping of the dredging also, but the part that stuck with me was the feds naming Lock 6 as a possible hydro site, number 55 out of 100. Felsenthal was not as high on the list as a couple of locks in Louisiana but this seemed odd after th...

Turning Felsenthal Lock and Dam into a hdroelectric dam

I recently read in a Monroe, La. newspaper that in its effort to go green the federal government has named Lock #6, the Felsenthal Lock and Dam, as a possible future hydroelectric site, number 55 on its list. Can anyone aim me in the right direction on where I can find a bit more info on how this wi...

Thanks for the ideas Jim and Mike, I don't know why I hadn't thought of the Werner website but I will definitely be visiting it.

Re: Getting ready for a new boat any ideas on a paddle?

Thanks Fellows, I had pretty much decided on the Werner. After using a Carlisle paddle for a while and then the Werner I definitely liked the Werner mo better. Most of my paddling will be flatwater with a trip to Dragover or the Caddo every now and then so a touring or rec paddle was what I was thin...

Getting ready for a new boat any ideas on a paddle?

I am getting ready for a new boat :D , I have decided on the LL Remix XP 10 that so many have recommended. Now I need a little advice on a new paddle. I am using a Werner that was loaned to me, with no return date mentioned (thanks Mike), and I love it but this will be my third boat and I only have ...

Re: Decent Canned Beer in the Rock?

NO TIM! Please tell me you don"t put any precious liquid in a vinegar jug. Vinegar and fermentation/brew just don't mix (take the word of a wine maker). If you are going to repackage use a Platypus bladder, you will enjoy the results mo better.

Re: Thoughts on spray skirts and float bags?

Sounds nice Shep. but I am in a boat to keep from getting too wet. Don't mind a swim every now and then though. I haven't got enough experience to roll yet but I can come out well enough if I have to.

Re: Thoughts on spray skirts and float bags?

Thanks for the advice folks, it gives me a little more to think on. Here in South Arkansas the only WW we usually see is when two ski boats cross close to you. I usually paddle without a spray skirt unless it looks like it will rain or the skeeters are bad. But I have found it nice to have even thou...

Thoughts on spray skirts and float bags?

After a lot of research I have pretty much decided on the LL Remix 10 when tax return time comes around (if not a bit before). Now I need some suggestions on what are the best type of spray skirts and float bags for this beauty. I paddle mostly flat water but would like to do the rec school thing ne...

Re: Need feedback: tents and morning fog/heavy dew

Tim, I have camped in screen tents, A-style single walled tents, cabin tents, under tarps and in domed tents. The domed are my favorite. Condensation is a fact of life with all tents, even though I have not seen it as bad as you describe. Eureka tents were my favorite, I have owned four, they are no...

Re: Trip Report: Felsenthal NWR

Excellent post, great pictures. Really liked the way you geo-tagged them. I am going to have to learn how to do that. Lot more area to cover and so little time. Amazing how, until you have been out a few times, Felsenthal can look the same in so many places. I usually carry a compass and mapping gps...

Re: Felsenthal Fall Festival?

Thanks for filling in the details Debo. Are you going to allow a serpent to attach itself to your finger like you did last year? To bad it is the same weekend as Rendezvous. I may try to stop by before heading to Malvern. I forgot there used to be a beer joint on the west side of the bridge until I ...
