Re: Friends Of Little Sugar Creek Dec. 7th

The Council voted 7-1 in favor of awarding the dam design contract to the Texas engineering firm. It is unknown who the other bidders for the half million dollar contract were. If bids were taken. A last minute document surfaced by the city attorney which specified that the dam had to be maintained ...

Re: How many thwarts in your canoe

I added a thwart behind the bow seat in my Blue Hole when I reoutfitted it. But I made sure that it left me room to turn around for solo paddling. As it turned out, moving that seat slightly forward and the thwart slightly aft gave the right balance without compromising hull rigidity. I also used th...

Re: 12 year old boy drowns on Elk River (MO)

This youngster was not wearing a PFD. The first canoeing fatality this year in Missouri reportedly was wearing hers. So while a PFD is no guarantee against a drowning, it certainly puts the odds of survival in one's favor.

Re: Law on the Mulberry

From the 2015 Arkansas Game and Fish Fishing guidebook. Dadgummit! It's correct on the web site but not in the most current guide book. Great job, guys! :hammer2: I'm not a lawyer but I play one on the internet. A law is binding and in effect when properly published by the legislature (Arkansas Cod...

New style wetsuits!

A friend just brought a new style of wetsuits to my attention. I thought of some of the paddlers here who are professionals in real life and weekend wave warriors.

Shunned, ostrasized, abandoned! -M- Of course it still isn't to late to repent. They make every bit as nice of a flower pot for the yard as retired bathroom fixtures. Marigolds do well in them I hear. And those Doctor Doolittle push-me-pull-you paddles can be sawn in half, grips added to mak...

Re: White Water vs Flat Water - Boats

Thank you for helping. Chris suggested I bring both canoes. I like that idea. The XL had a pedestal seat before. I'm going to try to have it put back in, next week. My Solo 13 has a thwart seat I can get my feet under: It doesn't have thigh straps though and I'd like to have those. I've gotten a li...

Re: emerald ash borers & firewood

codger, Please post up the manufacturer of that neat little stove you use. Looks like it would work well here in AR and OK. and, last fall when we did the Upper MO lewis and clark Montana float, seems like we had a couple of those canoe inspections for invasive critters. dave That is an Emberlit. I...

http://mohawkcanoes.com/flatwater/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Mohawk does a fair job explaining the differences on their site with the category listings. IMHO, experience is the best teacher for what works best for an individual. You'll learn what features make a canoe ...

Re: emerald ash borers & firewood

We have the same prohibitions on firewood transport here in SW Idaho. It makes good sense. In fact we have "port of entry" inspections of any boat coming into the state checking for invasive species (aquatics). Moving out here pulling my canoe trailer I had to stop for inspections at the b...

Re: WTB Some of those little thingies

The metal ones are available on eBay, about $12 a hundred, Made in USA by AMS. The best are stainless or anodized and available from online hardware suppliers but much more expensive. The worst are the nylon ones which I used on my last install. They will tear out even with good rivets using stainle...
