Re: San Marcos river - thanksgiving?

San Marcos is really nice this time of year. All the tubers at the WW park are gone but the water is always warm and clear because it's spring fed. The WW park has 3 features. The first is a fast wave that is fun. The second is another wave that is narrower and less intimidating. The third is a smal...

If you go down there, PM me. I can give you the combo to the lock so you don't have to walk. But it's barely 400 cfs. Not much to write home about.

Re: Dallas Standing Wave, Status?

I actually had dinner with the project manager of the D wave last weekend. He was passing through Salida and we got together for some food. The latest on the Dallas Wave is that it has been handed over to the people in charge of the bike trail. It is still not officially open and they have changed t...

Buffalo River Questions

Some young men from our church are planning a trip to the Buffalo June 6 - 9. They are wanting to do from Ponca to Kyles Landing one day. Is it even runnable that time of year? Which campgrounds and outfitters would you recommend? If that section is too low, which sections of the Buffalo are best du...

Golf Cart Skiing

I've been in Miami shooting some commercials and couldn't paddle, so we had to create our own fun when we had a little down time.

Re: Video from Saturday

Big Daddy D, can you give me instructions on how to get to the wave from 35 and 121 or point me to a website with directions and will you guys be out there again this weekend. I live in Dallas and have never been to this wave, what an idiot! There's actually a new Texas paddlers board: http://www.t...

Re: Video from Saturday

Looks pretty good! So, no more problems with the police? Some paddlers got hassled by the Dallas Public Works guy last Tuesday and he threatened to call the police. On weekends, there seems to be less hassle. It's just hit and miss. I've been lucky the last 3 or 4 times and nobody has been down the...

Video from Saturday

Wanted to test out my new Panasonic GH2, so I shot some footage at the Dallas Wave. It shoots full HD at 24 fps so it has a much more cinematic feel than regular HD video. Used a 14mm pancake lens and a 14-140mm zoom with Fader ND filter. http://vimeo.com/37571558" onclick="window.open(thi...

Pig blood in the river

Sadly, a local meat packing company was discovered to be dumping pig's blood into Cedar Creek which runs into the Trinity. Cedar Creek feeds into the Trinity about 200 - 300 yards below the whitewater park. Here's the news report. http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2012/01/20/dallas-plant-investigated-for-dump...

Re: Oh no, here we go again.

I posted several comments below the article, but some guy, Sam, brought up a point that I had forgotten about. It's a good one: Sam: "Let's be clear, the river between the levees is not nature nor natural - it was moved from its original course, now known as the Trinity Meanders/Trinity Stand T...

But honestly, I don't really care anymore. Just going to go paddling.

Lost Video

I was going through some old footage and found this edit. Don't think I ever posted it. This is from September 2010 on the Paluxy in Glen Rose, Texas just after Tropical Storm Hermine. Paddlers: Matt, Mike, Phil and me. Things are quite slow around my office so I thought it would provide a little so...

Re: Cops called on us.

Six of us hit the Dallas Wave this afternoon around 3. Top wave is obviously awesome at 2400, but still very nice at 1100 as it was today. Great surfing and great weather all around. When I came back up to the car around 4 p.m. my 12-year-old daughter said, "Look dad, there's a guy in a car ove...

Cops called on us.

So Trevor, Ben and I decided to go down to the Dallas Wave yesterday because it was running at a sweet 2400 cfs (perfect level, by the way). We were in the parking lot and Ben had already got in the water. Trev and I were about to walk down to the water's edge, when two trucks pulled up. They stayed...

Rule #1. Always make sure there's a creek at the bottom of the hill for splash down.
