Re: Floating the Red

The put in point is U.S. 71 just north of Texarkana (8 or 9 miles) and is an Arkansas Fish and Game Commission launching area. The take out point is at Highway 67 near Fulton and is just an access point and there is no real launching area but you can get a canoe out with no problem. The lenght of ...

Re: Floating the Red

Post a reply by the 16th to let me know if you would like to join me. Of all the sections between Sherman and Shreveport, this is the shortest. Thus I am going to do it in one day. Easy trip but interesting.

Concerning Cost

Someone replied and asked about the cost. Three factors make up the total cost: 1) what the Lodge charges ($995 plus tax), 2) your share of the transportation to and from Pine Falls, Manitoba, and 3) your share of the food while at the cabin (12 meals). Don't know where fuel or food will be next ...

Black Lake, Manitoba

I just got off the phone with Jamie at Dogskin Lodge and we have the cabin at Black Lake reserved for a four day fishing trip next September. Black Lake is about 225 miles northeast of Winnipeg. Excellent walleye and northern pike fishing. Do you need to get away for a few days? Do you need to get ...

Re: Rendezvous - Canoe Camping session

Richard, canoe camping is alive and well but you have to go where it is at. Any of the three summer months go to the Gammon River or the Bloodview River in Manitoba and you will see that this sport is doing alright. It might not be faring as well here in the South but Canada holds her own in this ...

Re: Mt. Fork Tomorrow (Sunday, July 20)

You are right. Excellent eating. I was looking at an old home in English and I would stop there every trip over. I think I was making trips so I could go by and grab a bite to eat. The Smokestack down near Santo near the Brazos River is another of these places.

Re: Mt. Fork Tomorrow (Sunday, July 20)

Hey DeKalb, can't speak for Jim but I wasn't up there Memorial Day. I am not much on crowds and I just feel there was a crowd there that time frame. I like to have the river to myself or with just a few. I float for reasons other than whitewater thrills and thus you have a good chance of seeing me ...

Re: Mt. Fork Tomorrow (Sunday, July 20)

River was low yet I managed to tip over in the falls. Too many people up there. This might be a good float with more water and fewer people; maybe a Wednesday float.

I think I will just stick with Canadian wilderness trips. The lakes are always floatable.

Re: Mt. Fork Tomorrow

Jim, appreciate your reply. The amount of water doesn't concern me. Going postal (I work for the Post Office) does. I need a break. Calgon, save me. If there isn't any water I will sit on the bank and drink Pearl. A summer without my Canadian trip is a bummer.

Mt. Fork Tomorrow (Sunday, July 20)

Floating the Mt. Fork tomorrow (Sunday the 20th) and if anyone is interested then reply. Floating from the re-reg dam to Highway 70. My partner is going to solo on downstream for a couple of days. He has more free time than I do.
