ALERT! Major Strainer at Lower Screw Up on Richland

The old Sweet Gum tree that has stood watch through many a flood, scout, swim, and rescue from Lower Screw succumbed to the heavy wind that blew through on Friday night 7/7/2012 and is now a MAJOR strainer blocking any clear passage of Lower Screw Up on Richland. The trunk blocks the river right boo...

Re: Richland: Your Favorite Level Is...

My favorite level is in the range between 3.5 and 4.5 on the takeout gauge. This range of flow covers up most of the bones that can mess with lines. At this level there are numerous well defined lines at most of the drops. At this level the water quality also tends to be more clear - post epic rise ...

Re: I need to thank some people

After a day of rest and some reflection I’d like to offer some follow up thoughts that might be something akin to a debrief or more apropos a lessons learned - an event critique if you will. Replay after replay in my mind’s eye – Nick did nothing wrong that was apparent. His line at the Fall’s mimic...

Re: "Kayaker" Rescue on Arkansas River

evening news here made no mention of this report. I can only conclude a non-local saw flood debris in the water from the flooding last spring and concluded it must have been a kayak reported to authoritiess who subsequently verified said debris as such. please pardon and forgive. As I mentioned the ...

"Kayaker" Rescue on Arkansas River

This just ran across my feed. "BREAKING: Rescue Crews responding to report of possible kayaker submerged in the AR River."

Based on what little I have I believe the report is from Little Rock.

NOTE: This is unverified information.

Re: I want a BadA$$ GPS!

I may have created a bit of confusion with my mention of just using a cell phone it does have limitations. Here's Smart phone and GPS beta. COVERAGE REQUIRED If user wants to see self on map and visually track the map and use the map to navigate during the excursion then cell phone coverage is requi...

Re: Critique my Shred Ready video please!

I agree with the other comments about the right mixture of paddling versus playing. That's really good in my opinion. I do have one suggestion which would be to either cut more of the helmet cam footage or to shorten those clips. The beauty of helmet cam footage is that it gives foot person perspect...

Re: Falling Water Creek road

Oh I forgot to mention. If planning a Bobtail run you will have to run shuttle via Hwy 16 all the way around to the Witts Springs side of the mountain. Better bring an extry gas can because I'd reckon that to be around a 70 mile shuttle if I was guessing.

Re: Falling Water Creek road

A bit of an update on the landslide repair. 1) Falling Water road is temporarily blocked by gate at the low water bridge on Falling Water. The gate is locked and the road is closed. 2) The road up from the Richland Campground is also gated, locked and blocked from the campground in the direction of ...

Re: Nose Plugs

You might try not wearing plugs. Not wearing them you might get a sinus blast or two along the way if playing around but you might be better conditioned for when you take a plunge that you didn't see coming. It might keep you from getting worried about your nose. If playing a lot and doing all the f...

Re: River Gages on the Chopping Block!

If we had to prioritize these two would be my vote for highest priority.

#1 Priority - 07055875 Richland Creek
#2 Priority - 07055646 Buffalo River near Boxley

Thanks

Re: East Fork Little Buffalo Water Quality

Yes because the cleared land was on top and everything below it was timber but it will still carry a lot of sediment down to the creeks I bet.

Next time I'm up there I"ll take better note of exactly where it was and let everyone know which creek will be extra muddy.

Re: East Fork Little Buffalo Water Quality

The area has both public and private. Since the clearing was on another ridge a long way off I really couldn't tell which but my bet would be it was private land because it looked like it had been cleared for pasture by a bull dozer.
