Re: Repairing on an alum canoe
If you don't want to do it yourself call the local airport and get a mechanics number. The have the bucking tools an rivets to take care of it. Semi trailer repair shops can also do it. Most of the trucking company shops can do it as well. If you want to do it yourself follow Jims instructions. The ...

Re: Advice on Wood Gunnels
I also have a couple holes in the gunnels from an extra thwart that I had to remove. I was thinking that if I'm oiling, that I'll oil first, letting oil soak down into those holes, and then maybe fill them after with wood putty. All of the reasons you mentioned above is why I prefer oil. I have done...

Re: Advice on Wood Gunnels
Watco teak oil. I tried poly and it breaks down over time and leaves pits and a chipped look. I use a bleach water solution (1 cap of bleach to 32 oz of water in a spray bottle) with scotch brite pads to clean it and get it ready then wipe on the teak oil. The bleach will get rid of any discoloratio...

Re: Decent Canned Beer in the Rock?
I use 64 ounce hydo Flasks and fill with whatever I am stuck on/ drinking at that time of year or picked up on my travels. You head over to Vinos or Diamond and have them fill them up as well. They will keep beer for a week without it going flat or losing its head based upon personal testing. Pre fi...

Re: AO Coolers
I have not used the AO coolers but they are very similar to the polar bear coolers which I use. http://www.polarbearcoolers.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I love these coolers. I have 2 of each 12, 24, 48 and backpacks. (why 2 of each ? in the fall they will have a 2 f...

Re: Fishing kayak advice needed
Jared, How do you plan to use the boat? What type of water so you plan to fish the most, moving or flat? What times of the year do you plan to fish? I have an Ultimate 14.5 The commander is very similar in design but I have never paddled one. It is a tunnel hull or double pontoon hull like the ultim...

Re: Canoe camping ?s
Someone mentioned pickle buckets...A nice cheap way to keep gear dry. If you liver near a pool check with them to see if they have any empty chemical buckets. I now have five of these (which were free) that have blue lids for no glare, and they have screw on lids with a ratchet style lever to keep ...

Re: GCI Outdoor SitBacker Canoe Seat ?
Just an update on my own question. Santa gave me a Sitbacker and last night I was making adjustments while in the canoe. Turns out the Sitbacker is too wide at the gunnels for the stern seat in a Wenonah Solo Plus. It is a tight fit on the bow seat, but plenty of room on the center seat. Glad I hav...

Re: buffalo
Shipps Ferry - 5.6 miles downstream Shipps will work, but if you don't want to go down that far the gentleman at Riley's Station will probably come out and tow you to his dock for a nominal fee. Are you launching at Rush? Miles normally charges 10.00 which includes parking at Riley Station. Great f...

Re: Buffalo River Canoe Trip
I would not recommend going beyond Rush. The White is running very fast at this time as they try to lower the lakes. It may take months for the lakes to return to normal seasonal levels. The rule of thumb is to start as high up as water levels permit so if you follow this you will need to keep trac...

Re: Kings River. Marble access?
Thanks for the info.. one more question. Is Ernie the only shuttle option for that stretch? I saw mention in an earlier post about the gas station in Marble. All I really need is a ride from marshall ford back to my boats/mrs before we launch. Call the station Kings River Country Store 22784 Highwa...

Re: Kings River. Marble access?
I have another question after thinking about that trip a little more. Did anyone see the chicken or turkey cages that had been washed down? Just curious to see if those had ever been removed or if that was going to be a fixture of that float for years to come. I also echo using the left side when c...
