Larry - thanks for letting us know and Tom - our best wishes for a fast recovery. We need the "man that wrote the book" back on the water!

Re: Last Royalex Boat; What Would It Be and Why?

You folks just reminded me of the story of the Blue Hole Repair Kit. In 1981, my Red Blue Hole (OCA317) was starting to look pretty bad and I began to wonder if there was any way to make it look new again like it did when I bought it in 1974. I had met Roy Guinn, one of the owners of the Blue Hole C...

Re: Last Royalex Boat; What Would It Be and Why?

I could wax fat about how good the Blue Hole OCA was for an all-around boat for both solo and tandem paddling and how great the Blue Hole Sunburst II and the Whitesell Piranha were for solo paddling. Also, the Blue Hole Starburst and the Dagger Dimension were great boats for tandem paddling, but I h...

Re: Tips on Spring Break on the Rio Grande?

Fish - I agree with all the items mentioned above, and I especially agree that the water quality is terrible. One further comment is that they do not allow dogs on the river in the National Park, if that makes any difference to you. Also, we found a good outfitter by the name of Far Flung Outdoor Ce...

Re: From the ACC's Way-Back Machine

Anyone who wants to hear my version of the Ballad of the Ocoee 5 is welcome to come to our 33rd annual Rita Jenrette Memorial Bubba Float next year. I readily admit that my version was never as good as Beard's, but it is generally well received. As one point of clarification, Frank Barton was wearin...

Re: From the ACC's Way-Back Machine

That picture was taken in the early 80's (1981?) and we were on the Hiawassee River in TN. We had paddled the Ocoee River earlier in the day and thought that the Hiawassee would be a good change of pace. That night, the three of us, plus Jack Lassiter and Frank Barton, spent the night in jail. That ...

Re: Lower Buffalo River

I have been told that the river resurfaces just upstream of Margaret White Bluff, which is a little over four miles downstream of Woolum. You can also drive to Margaret White Bluff, so this might be a good excuse for a road trip.

Re: Ozark Whitewater Hall of Fame

That is a great picture. By the way, that is Terry Keefe standing on the rock with his back to us, and I was standing next to the photographer when the picture was taken. My guess is that this picture was taken in the late 70's. Also, just a brief history of the ACC. We started the club in the fall ...

Re: Ozark Whitewater Hall of Fame

Thanks, Shelby, for remembering me. I guess it takes an "old timer" to remember a really old timer. I second Debbie's motion on Stewart Noland. He was there with us on many of the open boat runs of the 70's. He is also the one most responsible for getting us to go west. Plus, if we are tal...

Re: Coogan's surgery?

Mike,
Get well soon! I had back surgery in 1979 and 1981 and my best advice to you is to religiously do the excersizes that they tell you to do (I did not after the first surgery and I am sure that contributed to the second). Our best to you and we hope you get back out soon.

Re: Lee Creek Tommorow

Lee Creek looks like it will be great tomorrow. plus the Cossatot is at 90 cfs so it looks like the Cossatot First Timers Trip might not go (dadgummit!). I plan to be at Devil's Den by about 11:00am and will have maybe three rafts. We are happy to have others if anyone is interested.

Re: 35th Annual Whitewater School

Congratulations to Marc and Patti, and all the instructors and volunteers for another great school. I have been involved in 34 of the 35 schools (director, instructor, and lately as an observer) and it just keeps getting better. Keep up the great work.
