Re: Need advise for a WW beginner
Hi Tia, I haven't paddled but have a Zen, so can't really give a fair comparison of paddling these two boats. Your best bet is to borrow or demo each. Here are links to the info provided on Mamba and Zen by their manufacturers: https://jacksonkayak.com/blog/kayak/2015-zen/ https://www.dagger.com/us/...

Re: fiberglas paddle repair
Have some kevlar cloth and resin, though may be at the end of usable shelf life. Have done quite a bit of boat repair but little on paddles. I'm game to work with you on an attempt as a learning experience. So couldn't guarantee results, but I suspect we could improve what you have. Located in Arkad...

Our trips are often planned on fairly short notice since our whitewater rivers are rain dependent. Are you talking about planning trips for which you'll travel from Canada OR are you now living or spending time in our area?

Re: Quachita boat trip
You could always use Google Earth to look over your trip and identify other places that might have what you're looking for. You can also use the line measure feature to get a fairly good estimate of distance between any two points.

Sorry you got no response. Most of trip planning has shifted to the Facebook group. Post up there or check on plans for future trips.

Re: Newbie here
Opinions vary, as you might guess, about breaking in to whitewater kayaking. Some advocate boats that require more from the paddler as a way to speed the learning curve. Others recommend something more forgiving initially. I suspect it depends a lot on the individual paddler: how aggressive vs cauti...

Re: ACA Adaptive Paddling Workshop interest
Have wanted to take an adaptive workshop for a while. Even applied and received a grant from OBU to attend one, but couldn't find one even in our region at the time. So, still interested.

Re: What is the value of my canoe?
Here's some info that might give you something to start on. I found an old ad for an Osprey 140 new at about $1700. But Old Town no longer makes the Osprey, so not sure how old the ad was. Also found an ad for one on the ACC site from 2016 where one sold for $500. You might google around for used Os...

Re: Cossatot Saturday March 31?
Sorry I missed your post. Had a small group on 'tot on Saturday--3 experienced and 3 first timers. Would have been glad to have you join us. Be sure to check/post on the ACC Facebook page, too, in the future. Until folks abandon FB, it seems to get more attention than the message board.

Re: Carry Water for multi-day trip on Buffalo?
Sawyer has a product they claims handles viruses, too, even heavy metals. I haven't used them, but their S2 and S3 foam filters are advertised to handle viruses. https://sawyer.com/products/select-filter-and-purifier/

Re: Carry Water for multi-day trip on Buffalo?
It was a Sawyer filter. I'd go for a larger filter and pouch next time. We used a mini. Several sizes available.

Re: Kayak instructors
American Canoe Association maintains a list of instructors, though I can't vouch for how up to date it is. Here's their kayak instructor list.

Re: Royalex Repair
I used keel easy on an old Coleman canoe. Different plastic but didn't hold up well. I removed after one summer. Might work better in Royalex. I've used Kevlar and Fiberglas with pigment to match color of boat.
