Re: rack noise

rack noise

Installed a new rack on a mini-van and turned it into a Hummer. At about 40 mph there was a low pitched (LOUD) humming sound that got louder as speed increased. I was using the square Thule bars. Moving the bars was not an option so I started to investigate a fairing. I found a simple fix that sound...

What's the parking situation at Lancaster Bridge? A while ago there was a thread that said the traditional parking area had been posted. Thanks, Cal

Re: Kyle's landing new parking

Way to get a jump on things! Don't we usually wait until someone actually gets a ticket before the whining starts? Our group was on the Buffalo a couple of weeks ago and had an encounter with a ranger. He was friendly and offered us maps of both the river and area trails. I'm just sayin'.....

Re: Frog Bayou Gage Does Not Correlate

The recommended levels for Clear Cr. are probably way out of whack as well. Before the expansion of Lake Fort Smith the water registered at Rudy came from Clear Cr. as well as what came over the old dam. Now water no longer comes down over the dam so Clear Cr is providing most of the water coming fr...

Re: Illinois River - Robinson Road bridge area

The bridge you took the pic from is sometimes referred to as the Midway Bridge because it was about midway between Hiway 16 and old Hiway 68 (now where 412 goes thru between Springdale and Siloam). Hiway 16 near Savoy is a normal put-in. Be careful as it can be muddy and slick at the put in there. N...

Want to buy royalex tandem

Want to buy: 16-17ft used royalex canoe in very good condition. Need a high volume boat suitable for Buffalo River/Mulberry (up to class II+). A 16ft Buffalo, Old Town Tripper, Mohawk Intrepid, Mad River Explorer would do nicely. Not interested in the heavier cross link material. Scratches are fine ...

Forest Service shoots down fee hike for seniors

Some time ago there was a thread that the 50% camping discount for those 62 and over was perhaps going to change. Just read that things will remain as they have been since the 1960's with older folks and the disabled continuing to get half off. I have mixed feelings about this one since the old folk...

Re: Rotator cuff rehab advice

I had very good success with exercises found online at familydoctor.org Just search rotator cuff. My schedule was crazy and couldn't get an appointment with a physical therapist (probably your best option) and wanted to try something since cortisone shots and a couple months at the chiropractor had ...

Re: Stoney Point???

FYI... Stoney Point is also known as Summer's Ford. If you get lost and make local inquiry both names might be helpful. If you are heading North on 143, your turn onto gravel will be right onto County Rd 416. Have fun. Cal

Re: Highway 23 Closed Near Ozark, Ark.

The closed part of the highway is not too far north of the Mulberry Mt. Music Venue. From the north you can still get as far south as the Highland Trail Parking lot on 23. If you need to get down to the Mulberry, you can go south down Highway 23 to E. Fly Gap Road. Easy to miss as it takes off from ...

Just saw on the news Hiway 23 has been closed for the next two wks while they work stabilizing the area. Plan to work 7 days a wk for two weeks to get one lane back open. Believe it is the same area they have been working on (near Mulberry Mountain). Cal

Re: Feds attempting to reduce the discounts for Golden Eagle

It didn't take long reading this proposal to see the word "concessionaire" pop up. I'm sure it's the lobbying effort of the various private concerns that have taken control of OUR campgrounds. It can be pretty much guaranteed that when they reduce the senior discount from 50% to 10% that t...
