Buffalo River Trail Camp--Meet at Sand Hole at 9AM Saturday

Post by Richard » Wed Oct 26, 2011 8:45 am

CHANGE OF PLANS! MEET AT SAND HOLE AT 9AM SATURDAY MORNING.
GPS WAYPOINTS N36.0067 W92.68333

Rain is an unknown factor at this point in breaking down camp and transporting the equipment. four to six canoes could probably handle it all. The equipment will be on the gravel bar at Red Bluff and would need to be transported upstream to Sand Hole which is about 3/10 of a mile above Red Bluff. The trail crew are not paddlers and will most likely hike out but the gear; ice chests, kithen tents and related gear, all need to be canoed out.

I will be home until early Friday morning. I need to know by then who from the ACC will be helping. Very likely, we will not know until Thursday night or even Friday morning what impact the rain will have on how we will be getting the gear out.

Volunteers are needed no matter what the rain does. We will meet at Gilbert Store on Saturday at 10am. We will then go to Sand Hole where we will launch canoes.

Thank you to all who helped earlier.

Re: Buffalo River Trail Crew HELP again(Sat Oct 29 10am Gilb

Richard - unless I ride over and back with someone from over here, I do not think I can come over this weekend. Knee has been giving me fits and I would be as worthless for carrying gear up from the river as I was last time.

Sorry, I really expected to be better by now. Hope Ken had a good trail building session. I was thinking of y'all.

Eric, I am glad you are going to let your knee tell you what you need to do this time. I have worried about what you were doing to it.

It is still too soon to tell but I don't think the river level is going to change much as a result of the rain we are getting so we should still be able to transport gear by river from Red Bluff to Sand Hole without much current to deal with. There are two places, close together, where getting out and pulling the canoes across shoals will be required. The big help will be getting gear from the gravel bar, up the hill to the road.

Meet at Sand Hole at 9AM Saturday

If things turn out as anticipated, there will be no paddling. Main thing needed will be grunt work getting the stuff up the hill at Sand Hole. I will be leaving about 11am today (Friday) and will not be on the message board again until after we are finished.
If you can help, give me a call on my cell phone 501-450-0217. I do not plan to be at Gilbert after all. We will meet at Sand Hole.
