2020 March Southern Missouri Paddling

Date(s): March 14 - 29, 2020
Leader: Greg Vitale

Co-Leader: Steve Laporte

Location: West Plains, MO
Skill Level: Intermediate

Category: Day Trips

Details: Once again, we'll be heading south in early spring and paddling many of the fine rivers in Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas.

We will again be based out of Twin Bridges Canoe and Campground (http://twinbridgescanoe.com) located on the North Fork of the White River about 20 miles west of West Plains, MO.

Twin Bridges has cabins, camping, and an RV park lodging choices; and some meals are available at Twin Bridges. The cabins generally have at least a kitchenette, dorm refrigerator, heat, a bathroom and shower. The cabins vary, but rent for $200 a week. Let Twin Bridges know that you are with the March paddling group.

Rivers likely to be paddled may include:
Big Piney River, MO
Current River, MO
Little Piney River, MO
Little Piney Creek, MO
Jacks Fork River, MO
North Fork of the White River, MO
Sugar and Indian Creeks, MO
Spring River, AR
Eleven Point River, MO
Bryant Creek,, MO
And others depending on water levels.

Additional information about these paddles, accesses, distances and routings are in the wonderful book, "A Paddler's Guide to Missouri".

Expect our first paddle on March 14 and our last no later than March 29. Since this will be early spring paddling, extra warm synthetic or wool clothes are essential; and, if you already have one, a wet or dry suit might be handy. Bridges are far apart, the roads are roundabout and cell phone service is spotty, especially on the rivers.

The rivers and creeks are beautiful, but often twisty and obstacles common. Best to come prepared. Under these circumstances, intermediate paddling skills are required. If you have the skills, then I hope you consider joining us in 2020 for as long as you can.

Please email me if you plan to join us in early spring paddling in Southern Missouri. Include in the email your:

1. Planned arrival date
2. Planned departure date
3. Cell phone number and email or address
4. Alternative contact person and how to contact them

Thanks for your interest. Greg Vitale vitol_g@icloud.com
