Info wanted on Northern arkanasas and south MO runs please

Post by ebell » Tue Nov 09, 2010 11:57 am

it seems like I drive a while to reach most of my runs and as it turns out southern MO is not much futher than any other runs.

So if you have any info on runs like bear creek, roark, etc i would be interested in that info.

Would like to know put in and take outs, usgs guage, and what are good levels based of the guage.

Thanks
eric

You could also post your question on the Missouri Whitewater Association site.

There aren't many gauges on the good creeks around here except for Bull which is pretty fun @ 2500cfs & up -- 3500-even better. The lowest I've floated Bull was 1150 cfs. Swan and Roark have no gauges. There is a Bear creek with a gauge in MO, but I'm not sure if it's the one they are talking about in the posts.

Click on the Pix section on my post and check out the kayaking folder for some pix from Bull creek and a couple from Roark.

I have got a busy day so I might be able to get more in depth later. Looking at a little chance of rain coming so I am keeping my hopes up.

The best way to see if our runs are up is a radar overlay on google earth. Also if people have your number you will get a call.

Thanks

Dan

36.634132,-92.92595 put in

Other
36.967597,-92.990735 roadside 10 footer on public land needs lots of water

Plus lots more options when time allows. All of our stuff needs rain just like everywhere else, but the season is just about ready to begin.

A big lower swan creek is some mighty big water, 30,000 cfs is not unusual and a good run. cane, turkey, bear have much less volume.

you are welcome Eric.

Also I want to say that by no means am I "the man" as lots of boaters are better than me. I just like to tell people about our runs and share them.

What are the creeks like? Most of them are ledgy. they don't have huge gradient but they carry a pretty high volume. The ledges make nice waves and a few holes, but it is mostly safe.

If we have an area wide rain and you live in arkansas, you will propably want to stay there. Heck I am probably on my way down there too. The whitewater is better there. But if it rains here and not there, come on up. We have easy shuttles, you can buy alchohol anywhere, even sunday. Twice last summer we had big rain events that got everything going in taney county but not farther south.

Except for bull creek at the colliseum, you probably will never see another boater.

Looks like we missed our chances for rain this weekend.

Dan, have you ever ran the Woods fork down to Bull, and can you takeout at Saddlebrooke? I've wondered about the creek there at Busiek for a long time and I think I'll try the Woods fork all the way to Walnut Shade next time there's enough water.
The ledge at the Bar-K Wrangler camp is hard to catch at the right level. It can be surfed but it's not that great. When the water is high it gets washed out and there is just a wave in the middle and the rest is pretty flat.

I've run Woods Fork from Busic down to Walnut Shade on Bull Creek years ago. Best take your fishing pole for this one.

Seth

You can run woods fork to saddlebrook and take out there. Technically you are supposed to have permission, which I do since I have relatives living there. I think Clive the developer is under a lot of stress, so he is a little erratic. If you want to use saddlebrooke as an access, give me a call or go low profile.

Lots of trout in this creek. Not really a whitewater run even when it is big. But if you get on and it is really brown it will be exciting.

The little creek going by the road through saddlebrooke is really fun, but I have only run it once. I don't know what clive would think of me running it again, he seems to be in a completely different mood everytime I see him.
