Re: WEST GAFFORDS CREEK Friday thru Wednesday 5/8-13/15
Sunday looks pretty good still, right now at 5:49 p.m. on Saturday. The chance of thunderstorms is 25% until 5:00 p.m. for the Danville area on Sunday, and the watershed got about a half inch through the day today. If it doesn't rain hard enough to swell the creek past my conservative limit tonight,...

Re: WEST GAFFORDS CREEK Friday thru Wednesday 5/8-13/15
The water may be there, but I don't like the forecast for Saturday, today. Sunday looks a lot more appealing; I'm planning on Sunday.

Re: WEST GAFFORDS CREEK Friday thru Wednesday 5/8-13/15
Yes, I think an XP10 can handle the creek. I can think of only one fairly sharp turn and a few places where numerous rocks may be showing. The current will help you make the sharp turn; I always expect to bounce off a few rocks. The better your maneuvering skills are, the easier it will seem to mane...

WEST GAFFORDS CREEK Friday thru Wednesday 5/8-13/15
If it rains in the right place in the next several days I would like to make another attempt to paddle the Class II-II+ West Gaffords Creek in the Ouachita Mountains near Bluffton. I think I will be able to paddle the whole seven miles this time. Full information on the creek can be found at http://...

Re: WEST GAFFORDS CREEK Tuesday or Wednesday, 4/14, 15/2015
West Gaffords was too low, even for my personal low water minimum which is famously low. We drove over to Little Creek (closer to Jesseville) and paddled the lower end of the creek (fairly steep at 66 feet per mile compared to Cadron Creek at 13 fpm ), including Terri's Falls, a three step drop. It ...

Re: WEST GAFFORDS CREEK Tuesday or Wednesday, 4/14, 15/2015
The gage at nearby Gravelly shows 1" which will probably be enough to make it down the creek. The NWS radar rainfall total is about half an inch for the watershed, and probably wouldn't be enough; however, the radar is also showing 0.1 inches total for my house while there is 1.7 inches in my r...

WEST GAFFORDS CREEK Tuesday or Wednesday, 4/14, 15/2015
I have not paddled in over a year and would like to start out with a fairly easy 3 mile outing on Class II-II+ West Gaffords Creek in the Ouachita Mountains about halfway between Danville and Mt. Ida. Full information on the creek can be found on the website class2arkansas at the link below. http://...

A couple of Ouachita Mountains creeks
For people who enjoy the outdoors and paddling, two recently scouted creeks (which have hazards and are not ready for paddling) are shown in the photos at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/17863908@N03/sets/72157651241299647/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; https://www.flickr.c...

Re: Jamie Coogan hospitalized
Without allowing myself more than a reserved hint of possible hope, I think Jamie exhibited some behavior tonight (Wednesday, March 26) that was different from what I have been seeing so far. When I entered the room, her mouth was only open about a half inch or so and stayed that way for a few minut...

Re: Jamie Coogan hospitalized
We both had a much calmer day than yesterday. Jamie does have a blood clot in her left arm that is causing it to swell and be painful the arm is moved. No clot dissolving attempt will be made until the neurologist says the medication won't worsen her brain bleeding. If the clot moves, it will probab...

Re: Jamie Coogan hospitalized
As of Friday afternoon Jamie is breathing room air with only some moisture added to it. She partially opened both eyes several times today, with the right eyelid being raised a little higher than the left. Her neurologist stopped by and talked to me about the EEG test results: the most recent test s...

Re: Jamie Coogan hospitalized
Thank you, Central Chapter, for the get well card for Jamie. A friend from Jamie's church brought it in to the room, handed it to me, and only said she was a friend from Jamie's church. I opened the card without looking hard at the envelope, thinking it was from the church, took the card out and sai...
